The IKAS– Intercultural Skills for Administrative Staff – project is a European Erasmus+ program designed to strengthen administrative staff’s intercultural and professional English language skills. Joining the training offers a unique opportunity to improve your skills in English language and intercultural communication in a truly international context.

The IKAS project partners are the University of Caen Normandie, the University of Laplandthe University of Valladolid, the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, the University of Pardubice, and the University of Fribourg

Who Can Apply?

Administrative staff, employed at one of the universities involved in the IKAS project, working with international audiences like students, teachers, international partners and with the need to improve intercultural and English language competence at their current job.

Programme content

6 modules of 5 hours (30h total- 1h30 per week)

Online learning

Objective: improve proficiency in professional English, focusing on writing emails, handling administrative tasks, communicating in meetings, and understanding official documents

Course Structure

  • Module 1: Welcoming International Students/Staff. Introduction to University Administration English.
  • Module 2: English for Financial and Logistical Management
  • Module 3: Meetings and On-Campus Assistance
  • Module 4: Providing Information on Academic Programs and Policies
  • Module 5: Handling Administrative Procedures
  • Module 6: English for Customer Service and International Relations. Cross-Cultural Communication in the University Context

4 online modules (20h total-1h30 minutes per week)

Objective: foster cross-cultural awareness, adaptability and effective communication

Course structure

  • Module 1: Foundations of Intercultural Competence (5 hours)
  • Module 2: Effective Intercultural Communication (5 hours)
  • Module 3: Intercultural Collaboration and Conflict Management (5 hours)
  • Module 4: Applying Intercultural Competence in University Administration (5 hours)

One group mobility will be organized for all participants.

Objective: to put into practice the application of skills:the participants can practice their English and intercultural communication skills in real-life contexts, enhancing their confidence and competence

Requirements

  • Need and motivation to improve intercultural and English language skills (B1 minimum)
  • Commitment to the full program (training + mobility): from Sept 2026 until May/June 2027
  • Approval of your manager/head of department (model to be provided by IKAS)
